Wimbledon Embraces Video Replay System in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review system

The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing replay systems.

Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Athletes are granted the ability to question certain calls made by the official, mirroring the system already in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This development comes just a season following the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line officials.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine other decisions, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference end of a rally.

Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can initiate.

Case in Point

An illustrative example took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire watched a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.

Further Updates

Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.

Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
