From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
