The star has handed over the entirety of his £25k honor cash to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

He was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the best record of the past year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function small stages played in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 small stages across the UK.

The donation supported spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The notion that revenue from shows in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his honor funds to worthy causes.

When Pulp received the prize in the year 1996 for their record the album, frontman Cocker announced that the band would contribute their winnings to the organization War Child.

During 2002, musician the artist split her prize between several organizations, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," she shared with the media.

In recent years, they gave their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their group, alongside other local music groups.

Additionally 1994 winners the group donated their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," said vocalist Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected a couple of small stages in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in that area and the other in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who acquire "stakes" in the buildings.
