Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four initial break points in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
