An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and gave them to children at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children both between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She explained the man proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the police a second time.

She explained Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
